First Review Published

It may be a short one, but big thanks to John Barron at “The Jazz Word,” for the thoughtful (and complimentary!) review he recently published. Read it here: http://thejazzword.blogspot.com/2012/08/will-goble-some-stories-tell-no-lies.html Also, a big thanks to WWOZ in New Orleans and Barry Farrar at KSDS Jazz Radio 88.3 in San Diego for recent airplay.  Barry stopped by our show with Jason Marsalis at Anthology and I enjoyed speaking with him.  Check out his show! Album Mastered, Newly Titled!

My first album has been mastered and is inching closer to release.  Obviously, I’ve been overly optimistic in predicting WHEN the album will be out, but it’s looking like late spring/early summer is more than a distinct possibility.  With more time to listen back and think about where this album fits (and doesn’t fit) in the larger scheme of things both from an individual, group, and listener perspective, I’ve decided to change the title to “Some Stories Tell No Lies.”  Rather than gloss over flaws, imperfections, or any individual/group weaknesses, I’m attempting to present an honest snapshot of a group of musicians in progress.  It seems like a fitting opportunity to highlight how music can be helpful in telling stories and aiding narratives, especially those that capture both highs and lows. A special thanks to both Marlon Patton and Miguel Alvarado for a great job on the mixing and mastering.  Thanks fellas! Here’s a brief look at the artwork that will make up the front of the CD face.  It was sent to me on my birthday several years back by a wonderful artist (and my impressive aunt) Amy Trabka.  The photo preceding this post will be featured on the CD cover, and was taken by Atlanta photographer Laura Polmear.  Hope you enjoy, and stay...

On The Horizon: The Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet

This January, I had the privilege of joining Jason Marsalis in the studio, along with Austin Johnson on piano and Dave Potter on drums, to record our second album as Jason’s Vibes Quartet, which will be entitled “In a World of Mallets.” All tracking is complete, and the album is due out in fall of 2012. A recent interview with Jason Marsalis includes some thoughts on the Vibes Quartet, the new record, and our group approach: Jason Marsalis Follows His Own Path We’re looking forward to a pair of shows in the Northeast this March, in Schenectady and Philadelphia.  Head to the calendar page for details.  Here’s a brief video preview from our friend filmmaker Sascha Just and her upcoming documentary “The Beautiful City,” which features Jason and highlights New Orleans music, theater, food, and culture. The clips are taken from our recent performances at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, at Lincoln Center, New York City. For more on Sascha’s project, please visit:...

Currently mixing “Out In The Open”

After a successful recording session during the Atlanta blizzard of January, 2011, I’m excited to be finishing up all aspects of post production on my first album, “Out In The Open.” The album features Marcus Printup, trumpet, Chad Eby, Saxophones, along with Austin Johnson, piano, and Dave Potter, drums.  The music varies from originals penned by members of the group, to compositions spanning over 75 years and a diverse group of composers.
